Methadone Treatment
Methadone is a long-acting, Health Canada-approved medication used to treat opioid use disorder. It reduces withdrawal symptoms and cravings without producing the euphoric effects of illicit opioids, allowing people to stabilize their lives and engage more fully in recovery. Buprenorphine is a partial opioid agonist that reduces cravings and withdrawal symptoms while blocking the effects of other opioids. Combined with naloxone in Suboxone, it is widely prescribed as a take-home medication, making it a flexible and accessible option for many people in treatment for opioid use disorder.
