National Indigenous Peoples Day: A Time to Reflect, Learn, and Act

national Indigenous peoples day 2025

June 21 marks National Indigenous Peoples Day, a day to recognize and celebrate the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across Canada.

More than a day of celebration; it is also a time to reflect on the ongoing legacy of colonialism and intergenerational trauma. Its lasting impact on the health and well-being of Indigenous Peoples has contributed to individuals being 8% more likely than the general population to experience addiction.

Understanding this context is essential to providing meaningful and effective care.

We are committed to:

  • Expanding capacity to deliver services that are trauma-informed, culturally respectful, and grounded in reconciliation
  • Actively listening, learning, and adapting our practices to meet the unique needs of Indigenous clients and communities
  • Building partnerships with Indigenous-led organizations, Elders, and healthcare practitioners to ensure our approach is both inclusive and collaborative

On this National Indigenous Peoples Day, we invite all Canadians to honour the strength and resilience of Indigenous Peoples and to support actions that move us toward healing and equity. Learn more about how to get involved.

Recovery is possible – and must be accessible to everyone.

If you or someone you love is seeking support, we’re here to help. Learn more about our addiction treatment programs, or get in touch today.
