PAM 2024 Interview with Nadia Wasfi

Nadia Wasfi, interview during pharmacy appreciation month

During Pharmacy Appreciation Month, we spoke with Nadia Wasfi, Manager at Aylmer St. Pharmacy, to hear their perspective on how CATC’s integrated pharmacy services help support our patients on their recovery journey.

1. What motivated you to work in specialized pharmacy services for addiction treatment?

As a pharmacist, my primary motivation for specializing in addiction treatment services stems from my deep passion and commitment to patient care. Witnessing the challenges faced by individuals dealing with addiction inspired me to channel my efforts towards making a positive impact on their lives. I believe in the transformative power of personalized care and empathetic support, and working in specialized pharmacy services for addiction treatment allows me to contribute to the well-being and recovery of these patients.

2. What’s the best part of your job?

The most rewarding aspect of my job is the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients. Building trust and fostering connections with individuals facing addiction challenges brings a sense of fulfillment that goes beyond traditional pharmacy duties. Knowing that my support plays a role in their journey towards recovery is incredibly gratifying and reinforces my dedication to specialized pharmacy services.

3. Why are integrated pharmacy services so important for patients with opioid use disorder?

Integrated pharmacy services are crucial for patients with opioid use disorder because they provide a comprehensive and collaborative approach to healthcare. By integrating pharmacy services into the broader spectrum of addiction treatment, we can address not only the pharmacological aspects but also the holistic needs of the patients. This approach ensures that individuals receive well-rounded support, enhancing the effectiveness of their treatment plans and promoting long-term recovery.

4. What makes our patients unique, and how do you meet their needs in your daily work?

Our patients are unique in their journey towards recovery, each facing distinct challenges and circumstances. In my daily work, I prioritize understanding the individual needs of each patient. I strive to create a supportive and non-judgmental environment where open communication is encouraged. Tailoring pharmaceutical care to the specific requirements of each patient ensures that their unique challenges are addressed, fostering a more personalized and effective approach to treatment.

5. If you had one message for people considering starting treatment for opioid use disorder, what would it be?

My message to individuals considering starting treatment for opioid use disorder would be one of hope and encouragement. Seeking treatment is a courageous step towards reclaiming control over one’s life. It is important to remember that recovery is a journey, and with the right support and commitment, positive change is possible. Embracing the journey towards recovery is a testament to strength, and by seeking help, individuals are taking a significant stride towards a healthier and fulfilling life.

Thank you, Nadia, for sharing with us your passion for patient care, and words of encouragement for those struggling with opioid use disorder.

We hope you have a fantastic Pharmacy Appreciation Month!
