PAM 2024 Interview with Janet Campbell
PAM 2024 Interview with Janet Campbell
During Pharmacy Appreciation Month, we spoke with Janet Campbell, Pharmacy Support Coordinator, to hear her perspective on how CATC’s integrated pharmacy services help support our patients on their recovery journey.
1. What motivated you to work in specialized pharmacy services for addiction treatment?
Working in addiction treatment was not something I consciously thought of, but when an opportunity became available to work with CATP (Canadian Addiction Treatment Pharmacies), I thought it would be a great chance to work in an environment that provides specialized patient care. I have been here 9 years and enjoy being a part of assisting patients with their customized care plan and having the opportunity to cultivate positive patient relationships.
2. What’s the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is interacting with patients throughout their recovery journey, to be able to help them celebrate their successes and provide encouragement through their harder times. Helping patients see that their struggles are just a valid as anyone else’s and having them realize that they are not alone in their recovery journey is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.
3. Why are integrated pharmacy services so important for patients with opioid use disorder?
Integrated pharmacy services allow us to work closely as a team to provide the patient with the best care plan possible. If issues arise, they can be communicated directly with the team to be resolved quickly to help the patient achieve success in their treatment.
4. What makes our patients unique, and how do you meet their needs in your daily work?
Our patients are unique because they have many ups and downs, and they feel stereotyped within society. We strive to provide a safe and non-judgmental environment where they can feel comfortable seeking treatment. We offer a compassionate ear to their struggles and encouragement throughout their recovery journey. There are days when a patient just needs someone to talk to. We do our best to offer comfort and let them know that they are not alone, and that we are here for them.
5. If you had one message for people considering starting treatment for opioid use disorder, what would it be?
Come in to one of our pharmacies or clinics to see what programs we have to offer, meet the staff, and let us help you on your journey to recovery with the compassion and care you deserve.
Thank you, Janet, for sharing with us your passion for patient care, and words of encouragement for those struggling with opioid use disorder.
We hope you have a fantastic Pharmacy Appreciation Month!
